MEASURE COMPETITION RULES

MEASURE REQUIREMENTS
1.      Fish must be measured using a recognized measure board. Will accept NZ measure boards from other competitions and sport shops. Any concerns email a photo of it to confirm.  Measure boards should be used on a flat surface. The fish's mouth must be closed and free of lures or lifting devices.
2.      With the fish lying flat, measurements will be taken from the most forward part of the fish's snout with the mouth closed, to the rear center edge of the tail.
3.      All measurements will be made in 0.5 centimeters increments.
4.      Fish that measure between increments shall be recorded at the lower of the two increments. For example, a fish that measures between 45 and 45.5 centimeters will have a recorded length of 45 centimeters.
5.     Please only submit your 1 fish for each species on any day
6.      Entries close midnight 31 May 2026

PHOTO REQUIREMENTS
1.      The full length of the fish on the measuring device clearly showing the position of the mouth and tail. The fish may be held in position, but must be done in a manner that does not obscure the view of the fish
2.      A close up showing the position of the fish's nose and tail on the measuring device.
A photo of Angler with fish with background showing fish is in Harbour or West Coast
3.      Every fish must have tournament details included in the picture (placed on/ under the fish) - this can consist of either a print of entry, or a homemade sheet of paper stating WBC Length Comp.
 4.      All photographs must be digital and to be emailed to
weighs@waiaupaboatclub.org.nz along with angler's details
5.      Resolution clarity of image is at the sole discretion of the weighmaster.
6.      The length will be judged by the weighmaster and outcome final and be included in results.

HISTORY

In 1962 both Mr Laurie Crispe and Mr Dick Blackett investigated possible boat ramp sites at Clarks Beach and Waiau Pa, then approached the Harbour Board representative for advice.
This resulted in a decision in favour of the Waiau Pa site and the calling of a public meeting. On the 20th Jan 1962 the Clarks Beach Ratepayers Ass. called a meeting at the Waiau Pa Hall to discuss the proposition of building a boat ramp at the Waiau Pa Wharf site.  It was also decided to form a boating Club to be called the Waiau Pa Boat Club. The Franklin County Council assisted with the design, engineering calculations, quantity surveying and subsidized the initial construction costs of the original ramp. In 1975 club members discussed the purchase of a piece of land from the adjoining landowner. Mr Max Hunter.  On September the 16th 1976, a public meeting was held to discuss financing the land purchase. A price of $11,000.00 is recorded.  The Club provided the total finance required for the purchase of the land. In 1978 a second ramp was constructed with the Club meeting all the costs of this work. December 2009 a new resource consent and building consent were granted for a new replacement pontoon structure and a $50,000 grant was awarded by the then Auckland Regional Council.
