In 1962 both Mr Laurie Crispe and Mr Dick Blackett investigated possible boat ramp sites at Clarks Beach and Waiau Pa, then approached the Harbour Board representative for advice.
This resulted in a decision in favour of the Waiau Pa site and the calling of a public meeting.
On the 20th Jan 1962 the Clarks Beach Ratepayers Ass. called a meeting at the Waiau Pa Hall to discuss the proposition of building a boat ramp at the Waiau Pa Wharf site. It was also decided to form a boating Club to be called the Waiau Pa Boat Club.
The Franklin County Council assisted with the design, engineering calculations, quantity surveying and subsidised the initial construc-tion costs of the original ramp.
In 1975 club members discussed the purchase of a piece of land from the adjoining landowner. Mr max Hunter. On September the 16th 1976, a public meeting was held to discuss financing the land purchase. A price of $11,000.00 is recorded. The Club provided the total finance required for the purchase of the land.
In 1978 a second ramp was constructed with the Club meeting all the costs of this work.
December 2009 a new resource consent and building consent were granted for a new replacement pontoon structure and a $50,000 grant was awarded by the then Auckland Regional Council.
Sadly both Laurie and Dick are no longer with us.
